missing outlucky. I haven’t had any really personal insults hurled at me – at least on my own blog.If this shows anything it should be that people can be rude and insulting regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof. On par the religious[read Christians] are just as charming as the non-religious. A milestone to be obtained, for sure.

When Roughseas suggested it, my immediate thought was that I haven’t had any comments like that. Then I remembered all the philosophy dweebs I’ve got into spats with, they really hate me. And then whilst browsing, I found some more. Amazing what you forget! I’m sure Tiribulus has called me some choice names.

As for Insanity, she seems to thrive on being called an idiot. I think she wears it all as a badge of honour, believing these nasty folk are the Dastardly Debil harassing her while Jesus looks on all proud and filled with admiration for her steadfast tenacity in maintaining the kookiness.

I have a bore commenting on all my posts, atm, telling me I am going to Hell. Sigh. I am trashing them, unless I can be bothered to think up rejoinders. A new blogging buddy came to my rescue.
OTOH, looking through old posts recently (sometimes I get really bored) I found a friend I respect saying “What a beautiful poem, which makes me go shivery all over” about one of my posts.
Some of us bloggers are nice people.

He found my Gay Christians page. John Pavlovitz, liberal Christian blogger, has been exposing Jack’s Independent Fundamentalist Baptists, who believe in beating children to break their spirits, and have a nasty way of covering up child abuse- get the child to apologise to the abuser for challenging his authority as head of the household, that sort of thing. Still I liked my rejoinder- “I may be going to hell- but you’re going to Spam!”

John Shore skewered them. And again. I have done it before, really, standing up for liberal Christianity against the literalists. I do not want to go into it again. Christians can accept evolution and many-source theories of the pentateuch. This lot: Evangelicals say Nazism was a homosexual plot, or all involved with abortion are child-murderers, or whatever, I say it’s not, that’s just knockabout fun. But what Jack’s lot do to children, I can’t laugh at.

I have to admit I’m impressed with Insanity for being bold enough to post her less than stellar reviews. I’m particularly fond of: “vulgar and deeply offensive words that show tragic brain damage.” That one had me laughing for at least five minutes! When I went to Insanity’s blog a few days ago and saw the section called rave reviews, I thought for sure they’d be singing her praises, so I didn’t bother to look at it. She just won a *little* bit of respect from me for such a brilliantly funny idea to post her detractor’s comments.
As for myself, I don’t seem to get many hecklers, but then my blog is more personal in nature and I’m not debating too many controversial things (yet).
Violet, I see your pro-catholic thread heated up…AFTER I was gone of course. What a shame. God knows I love the catholic church and would work to support it in all ways. 😉

You should jump back in to the catholic post and help thetruthisstranger see the error of his ways. Did you see he finished on a heartfelt prayer? The kind of personal prayer that makes you feel sorry for him. Although it didn’t have that effect on Ark and Arch …

I *loved* thruthisstranger’s prayer! Cuz Violet, your heathen arse needs to be saved from logic and common sense, don’t deny it. Yet he was so heartfelt and sincere….it did make me feel a little sorry for him.
I considered jumping in the fray, but then it occurred to me I’d have to fight scripture interpretation with scripture interpretation. I think the entire bible is a *crock of crap* and even typing out scripture makes me feel like I have to vomit. Maybe it’s just too soon for me. You and others certainly do a good job of it AND make it look funny at the same time, but for me, it just makes me want to gather up every bible on earth and burn it…and maybe slap the believers with them before I light the flame. I have issues.
I have been wondering how the direction of my blog is going to go. I have plenty of lightweight christian readers, plus a good group of what I would call “religiously neutral,” open-minded readers. The hard core christians abandon my blog the second I typed the word “atheism,” which is fine because I couldn’t take their bible banging. Thus far I’ve kept it to my personal experiences, but if I make the decision to start strongly criticizing christianity it could change the entire tone of my blog. It’s something I have to think about.
In the meantime, thank you for letting me enjoy your blog and it’s fabulous commenters, which I read with great glee 😀

I was just re-reading that lovely prayer, and see it was directed at Ark and not you! Some poor sucker actually said a prayer over Ark, which is pretty damn funny. His response wasn’t quite as hostile as I imagined it would be, though he made up for it in other places. I’m sort of jealous because since my faith collapsed, I’ve never had a christian pray for ME. They’ve only called me the instrument of satan, ranted at me that I had hidden sin, told me I was going to burn in the lake of fire, and said my autistic child was possessed by a demon. What the heck makes ARK so special??? Was he ever religious when younger? If not, they probably think he’s prime conversion material being that he’s “fresh meat”, while since I was once a believer but now am not, I’m just dog meat. Still, I can’t believe I’ve got people damning me to hell while they’re praying all saintly over Ark’s bones. Hummph!

Well, my churchmates offered to come over to my house and drive the demons out of myself and my son…but that’s not the kind of heartfelt prayer I was hoping for. Of course I was catholic, and they’re more into damning than saving and evangelizing. I guess it fits they’d just kick me to the curb. I don’t remember praying over anyone else after they left the church…I guess we leave that to the protestants.

I mean she’s comparing you to Judas, who was overtaken by satan and betrayed the savior. It’s rather shocking she would go to such extreme depths. Do you remember what you said that garnered such a fantastic insult? I’m so glad you have a sense of humor about it.

The sheer idiocy of that statement (and no, Ain’t No, I don’t mean you, but Christians), boggles my brain. Christians maintain that Jesus was with his daddy in the very beginning, because the big guy knew that Man would fail and need a redeemer in the form of a blood sacrifice, a sin offering. Yet without Judas’ participation, the whole plan would fall flat – JC would live on, grow old, and die, and not as a sacrifice TO anyone, FOR anyone. Yet JUDAS is the bad guy! Why would satan do anything? It would be in satan’s best interest to see to it that Jesus lived to a ripe old age! Just think of all of those ripe, juicy souls he could vacuum up!
Not that Yahweh Jr. made any significant difference in how Humankind behaves, except possibly to encourage us to kill even more of each other defending him, but at least we’re forgiven for being the way his daddy made us.

In every church there should be a statue to Judas, maybe two, because without him how was Jesus to commit suicide? Hang himself on the cross unaided, nay. Judas was an important feature in the play.

I’ve always felt quite sorry for judas. Have you seen the movie The Last Temptation of Christ? It plays off this notion that judas was the *helper* of jesus and not the villain. It’s a great movie if you haven’t seen it, and the second half is an outstanding alternative vision of biblical events (though it’s meant as a fictional drama and not a biblical commentary).

The director was called a heretic for years afterward, which should at least be some confirmation of it’s entertainment value. Anyone ever call Superman a heretic? I think not. 🙂

Actually, I have heard of it and of it’s controversial ending, I just haven’t seen it. I AM a Netflicks subscriber though, and I should take the time to watch it, but considering I just got my March dishes washed, I’m not sure when that will be. (that’s not entirely true, I still have a plate and a couple of forks to go –)

My husband taught me in his bachelor days that if you just throw your dirty dishes in the refrigerator, they don’t smell or mold very fast and you can go months without doing them. So with that tip, you shouldn’t have to do dishes again until October, and you’ll have more time to watch heretical fictional dramas.
Or hell, just eat off paper plates and call it a day. That’s my trick, and it’s a whole lot more sanitary than my husbands.
