catholic condom catastrophe
Abortion is not the lesser of two evils. It is a crime. …On the other hand, avoiding pregnancy is not an absolute evil. In certain cases, as in this one, or in the one I mentioned of Blessed Paul VI, it was clear. I would also urge doctors to do their utmost to find vaccines against these two mosquitoes that carry this disease. (Pope Francis)
The head of the Roman Catholic Church has thrown many of his faithful flock into a state of wild disarray. For Catholics all over the world, it has come as a shock to them after lifetimes of avoiding sex (or only having sex if they could bear the thought of having yet another baby) that handy devices that stop sperm hitting eggs and creating unwanted babies, could be described by anyone other than the devil as potentially useful and not completely evil:
For those of us who have struggled with and committed to church teachings on sex and marriage this comes as a major blow. (Faith in our Families)
It’s difficult to get into the Catholic mindset on this one. The Catholic Church as a huge global movement has been restricting women’s choices and lives for thousands of years. They have been condemning people with dangerous diseases, most notably AIDS, to continue spreading disease among populations and to children, by restricting access to our modern friend and protector, the condom.
Some Catholics are interpreting the Pope’s suggestion that condoms might not be Pure Evil, as further indication that he knows nothing about what the Christian god God wants. According to their brand of theology, it’s more likely that a benevolent god would want HIV to rampantly spread through the world, or babies be seriously malformed by the Zika virus, than let love-making couples anywhere near birth control that can also help with disease control and the avoidance of devastating birth defects.
My favourite Scottish heretic group, Catholic Truth, who long ago placed themselves closer to the Christian god God than some old dude in Rome, indulged in this exchange about the dear old man:
Have you heard of (yet another) in flight interview in which this poor Pope was questioned on the use of condoms for prevention of disease? If so what link can you share? I would substantiate if I can for a priest who asks me to investigate. This is more disgraceful if true than silly remarks about American politics.
Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis have both made dangerous statements about condom use.
The mind boggles that possible condom use in the face of deadly or devastating disease could, to anyone, be ‘disgraceful’ or ‘dangerous’. Apparently it is a scandal that he has “suggested that there is a case to be made for women at risk of the Zika virus to use contraception.”
Is there any hope for people so severely brainwashed by unethical, illogical and even unbiblical nonsense?
